"LIFESTYLE BEGINNER"  - 24 WK - Half IRONMAN® (70.3) Triathlon Training  (+ Strength Training for the Beginning Triathlete)

Who This Plan Is For – You’re ready to attempt your first Half IRONMAN event. A base form of training is suggested, as you should be able to complete a Sprint distance with ease. Training sessions are built around both rate of Perceived Effort (RPE) and Heart Rate Structure Sessions.

You’ll succeed with this plan through its 3/1 structured approach. Three weeks load with one-week recovery. During this 24-week Half IRONMAN training phase, you'll focus on base endurance, with an intro into tempo training, open water swimming, and progressive brick workouts. You’ll begin with just under 6.5hrs in week one, with a max of 10hrs of weekly training during the competitive build phase.


Within this 24-week training plan, you’ll perform the following:

  • 26 Strength Training Sessions (18:25 HRS)  – Specifically designed for the beginning IRONMAN triathlete.

  • 91 Swim Sessions (24:26 HRS) - focusing on drills and techniques with video instruction

  • 72 Bike Sessions (45:35HRS)  with RPE and Heart Rate Structured Sessions.

  • 71 Walk/Run Sessions (35:05 HRS), also with RPE and Heart Rate Structured Sessions.

  • The option to include a “B” warm-up race and the Half Ironman distance within 24 weeks of training.
