"COMPETITIVE INTERMEDIATE" - 24 WK - Olympic Triathlon Training (Couch To Olympic Triathlon + Strength Training for the Competitive Intermediate Triathlete)
The  Competitive Intermediate -24 -Week Olympic Triathlon Training plan is designed for the Competitive Intermediate Athlete who can handle a heavier training load, with increased intensity throughout the plan, and wants to race the Olympic distance to achieve a podium position.
Training is based on heart rate% a Garmin device is encouraged. You also have the option to incorporate power in both the bike and run. This is also a structured plan. Workouts can be auto-synced to your device. Â
During the beginning phases of training, you'll focus on strength training, and base endurance, with an in-depth focus on technique during the swim training segments with an introduction to V02 Interval Training.Â
During the latter phases, you'll focus less on strength and technique and more on endurance, V02 interval training, and adding anaerobic threshold training as well as track sessions. Â
This plan uses mini-periodization based on a 3/1 structured workout approach; (3 weeks load, with a 1-week active recovery) incorporating proper warm-up, recovery, and functional strength training specifically designed for the Competitive Intermediate Athlete.
You'll begin with 4.5hrs of training for your first week, with a max of 8hrs in week 11 during the base/prep phase followed by a 13wk (max of 10hrs) competitive build phase including progressive brick workout as well as open water training.Â
